Leaky Gut, does you pet have one?

Leaky Gut, does you pet have one?

How is this affecting their health?

Leaky gut is a medical condition where chemicals, toxins and food particles are able to leak through the intestinal wall into the blood stream, to then go on and cause health problems.  More and more evidence is suggesting that this is the key to many chronic health conditions.

Hippocrates 2500 years ago said “All disease begins in the gut.”  So this isn’t anything new and he wasn’t wrong, we have just forgotten this important fact and are only now slowly catching up.

Our pets are just as inclined to develop a leaky gut as us, after all they do live in the same toxic world.   I have mentioned before that 80% of immunity is in the gut, so how can your pet be healthy, if they don’t have a healthy functioning gut system.

Looking at what happens with the digestive tract when your pet eats - food is first broken down in the mouth with enzymes as they chew, so will be partially digested by the time it reaches the stomach.  The stomach then goes on to further digest and separate the good from the not so good (chemicals, toxins etc).  It takes the good (all the nutrients and minerals) and absorbs them through the small intestine wall, it then sends the waste (not so good) on to the large intestine where it will go on to be eliminated.

Regular bowel movements are so important, as your pet can build up a toxic load.  If the bowel is not moving regularly it can have a build-up of chemicals that irritate the gut and make it more permeable.  One example is histamine, a chemical your immune system makes in response to an irritant.  Histamine isn’t bad, it causes a reaction to get rid of those irritants out of your body or off your skin, such as sneezing or itching.  But if this chemical is allowed to build up, it can cause your body to over react, which is what we see in allergies.

In the healthy small intestine, the walls have openings that are small enough to let all the good stuff (the nutrients and minerals) through, but in a leaky gut this wall becomes damaged by the toxic chemical build-up, the holes get bigger and let through bacteria, food particles and toxins into the blood stream.  These then goes on to cause many health issues such as:

  • Allergies
  • Auto immune diseases
  • Eczema / skin inflammation
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Chronic ear problems
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes

So how do you know if your pet has a leaky gut?  Chances are if they have any of the above health problems, then they have some form of leaky gut.  But don’t fear, cleansing and building the gut system back up is something you can do.

A lot of this I have already covered in my “9 Steps to a Healthy Pet” download.  But here is a brief over view below:

A good diet – natural is best

  • Good healthy mental / emotional environment
  • Limited use of chemicals and drugs (commercial flea treatments, steroids etc)
  • Probiotics – specific probiotics or natural yoghurts and foods
  • Leaky Gut Kit
  • Book a consultation to find a good constitutional remedy and bowel nosode

Our Leaky Gut Kit has been designed to detox, cleanse and support the body and gut system, get it back into balance so it functions better, then the body can go to work on healing itself.  Pretty much homeopathy 101 really.

Our consulting services we can do via phone or email.  We take a client case on your pet, then go on to do the research and find a constitutional remedy and bowel nosode that best matches your pet as an individual.  We then do a follow up in about 3 weeks to monitor how they have responded to the remedy, where we can make any changes and tweaks going forward, with the aim of bringing them back to full health.

If you have any questions about the above, please feel free to get in contact.
